Bedsores or pressure ulcers, as they are also called, are skin wounds caused by immobilization in the elbows, shoulder blades, knees, heels or in the sacral area.

What are bedsores?

These wounds occur at the level of soft tissues when they are pressed between bony prominences and a hard surface for a long period of time, and heal only if the pressure exerted on the affected area is removed.

The principle that "it is easier to prevent than to cure" is very valid in the case of bedsores, that is why it is advisable to focus more on the prevention of the appearance of bedsores, than on their treatment later, because the costs involved in the treatments they far exceed the cost of purchasing an anti-bedsore mattresses.

What is an anti-bedsore mattresses?

Anti-bedsore mattresses are special mattresses that, through their structure, with inflatable cells or different profile grooves, prevent the appearance of bedsores, due to the fact that they perform a light massage that oxygenates the skin tissues and improves blood flow in areas sensitive to the development of bedsores.

Anti-decubitus mattresses constantly redistribute and as a result reduce the pressure and compression of soft tissues between bony prominences and the wheelchair, bed or armchair, pressure which in the long term leads to the appearance of pressure ulcers. Anti-decubitus mattresses are easy to install, easy to use and provide long-term individual care at home, but also in care centers for the elderly, in hospitals, etc.

Who needs an anti-bedsore mattresses?

Anti-sciatica mattresses are the first recommendation in the case of a patient immobilized in bed either at home or in the hospital, who need careful care, and especially for a person suffering from urinary incontinence, who, due to poor ventilation and humidity, is at risk of developing this disease. Of course, to reduce the risk of pressure ulcers, avoiding sitting in the same position for long periods of time is the simplest solution, but unfortunately, in many situations it is not possible.

That's why anti-bedsore mattresses are recommended both for the prevention and for the treatment of bedsores that have already appeared, because they largely take over the role of moving the patient from one side to the other, which is indicated from hour to hour. They also increase the healing rate of wounds that have already occurred in people with reduced mobility or immobilized in bed or in a wheelchair.

Useful advice:

The compressor of the anti-decubitus system must work permanently while the patient is seated on the mattress, to ensure the alternate inflation and deflation of the mattress cells under the patient's body weight.

Anti-slip mattresses can be placed both on the bed and on the armchair, giving the sick person the opportunity to change his body position, relieving him of pressure.

It is not recommended to pass the mattress from one person to another, as it is a personal hygiene product aimed at patients with different degrees of immobilization. For the same reason, returns are not accepted in the case of a used mattress.

Always check the maximum weight of the patient that can be supported by the anti-slip mattress, this aspect can differ significantly from one model to another.
